Beauty Book: Mascara Madness Reviews
Today I want to talk about mascaras. These are the mascaras that I have in my collection. I’ve been testing them out for quite some time now and decided it’s the perfect time to actually give you quick reviews on them incase you were in the market for mascaras. I’ve tried so many mascaras in my years of doing makeup and I’ve had horrible ones and good ones. I’ve figured out what works and what doesn’t for my lash type so I want to save you loves some money and give you the 411 on the following products.
Don’t forget to check out my mascara 101 post here before buying any mascaras. I gave a detailed explanation on why certain mascaras work for certain lashes. Find your type and then try these out.
NOTE: This is just my humble opinion. These mascaras might work better for you but this is based on my experience and my lash type. I have straight asian lashes, so if you have the same as mine then these tips and reviews most likely will apply to you as well.
Lets get started…
Maybelline Rocket Volum’ Express Waterproof
I love this mascara to get extra volume. The wand is a short bristled fat one that reminds me of my other favourite mascara, cover girl lash blast waterproof. It does the same job so if you loved the cover girl version you’ll love this too. Usually I would layer this on if the first mascara I used didn’t give me enough volume. It is oil based so it’s waterproof which is good for special occasions, humid weather and holding the curl. It doesn’t budge at all. It is not difficult to remove as well at the end of the day which makes me love it more. For those who prefer non-waterproof, there is a version that is not waterproof but I can’t say it’s the same coz I haven’t tried it.
Maybelline Big Eyes Volum’ Express Waterproof
I LOVE THIS MASCARA! It has 2 wands; one for the top lashes and one for the bottom lashes. The wands are thin which make it very easy to coat each lash. My favourite part is the bottom lash wand. Since my lashes are really thin, using a big wand just makes it so hard to coat my bottom lashes but this one is just perfect for the job. It’s actually my favourite at the moment.
Maybelline Faslies Feather Look Waterproof
This is my go to mascara if I don’t want the hassle of removing it at the end of the day. Basically my go to everyday mascara. It’s really good for a natural look as well as fixing the clumps due to another mascara. Everytime I feel like my lashes are looking spidery, I grab this to separate the lashes and give it a fluttery effect.
L’Oreal Butterfly Waterproof
This mascara has a different shaped wand. If you can tell, it goes up on towards the end. The reason for that is to coat and lengthen your outer corner lashes for that buttery effect. I really love this mascara honestly. The only thing I don’t like about it is it flakes on me and it’s really hard to remove. But if you don’t mind that then you should give this mascara a try because it’s really great.
L’Oreal Volume Millions Extra Black
This is a water based mascara, so if you’re like me with straight lashes don’t even dare apply this straight on to your upper lashes because they will plop straight down and remove the curl. However, I LOVE this for my bottom lashes! It gives them good volume and separation. It also lengthens my bottom lashes. It’s not a bad mascara. The formula just doesn’t work on my upper lashes. If you have long and naturally curled lashes, you might just fall in love with this one!
Benefit They’re Real Mascara
This was a mistake I seriously regret, BIG TIME. I caved into the hype of this product and tried it out. This is a perfect example of what I keep repeating that just because everyone else likes it doesn’t mean it will work for you. For those with long and naturally curled lashes this would be fabulous but for those with straight lashes this is the worst you could ever get. The formula is very wet and it clumps easily. I really don’t like it. What I regret the most is it was really pricey for a mascara so I will definitely not repurchase this. It’s sad because I LOVE Benefit cosmetics. This mascara just didn’t work for me.
I think you can tell I love drugstore mascara. I just don’t like to spend that much on mascara since I use it everyday and it dries out easily anyway. There are good ones in the drugstore so I just opt not to even get high end ones.
That’s pretty much it! I hope you guys enjoyed this post. Makeup is really a trial and error and trying to find what works for you. So if you find a certain product that does you wonders, STOCK UP! Don’t ever let go of it!

It’s been a while since I’ve blogged. In my last post I promised that there will be a lot in store for you guys however I know I haven’t delivered on that. Today, I just wanted to take the time to really talk to you loves and share what has been going on, how I’ve been feeling and why I haven’t been blogging a lot. I’m not the type to vent and just let every detail of my personal life be available on line. However, since I haven’t been consistent with posting I felt like I needed to address it and I owe my loyal readers/friends an explanation.
Please don’t think that I’ve just abandoned my blog and all of you loves because that’s not the case. I’m not just slacking off and forgetting about all of you. There came a time when I just felt stuck. I tried so many make up tutorials, tips, style posts and I have them on my drafts but I just never published it. I guess coz the lighting just wasn’t working in my favour that I felt like the image quality wasn’t good enough. The weather hasn’t been really nice and I rely on natural lighting to take photos of my looks, so when the weather is bad, my lighting is bad and it’s just not at the level that I want to publish. It kinda made me feel really sad and uninspired. And it was tough on me. I felt like nothing was going in my favour and that everything was just against me. I truly honestly enjoy blogging and talking to all of you but I think everyone goes through a point in time where you just need a time off to regain that fire and passion that you have when you started.
Also, there has been so much going on. I had to deal with searching for apartments, meeting landlords, and finally found an apartment and having to deal with moving and settling in. To top it all off a lot of things just started happen, friends started to come and go, had some trouble with my work and just so many more overwhelming stuff that shouldn’t have to happen all in one go. I just had so much in my plate, so many things happening at once that I sincerely felt lost and had to get back into my groove. Even today I have to finish unpacking, setting up the room, run some errands, and all that grown up stuff but I knew I had to take the time, sit down and finally talk to you guys.
I personally don’t like how I just went on a hiatus and it’s been, I think, a couple of months that I just haven’t been consistent. I was on a really good streak posting at least once or twice a week and I just stopped. I sincerely apologise, I know you loves deserves better which is why I think I’ve just been beating myself too much on the matter.
I am so grateful though that even in my absence, you guys have been so supportive. I read every single message, every comment and I answer back because all of the lovely things and supportive messages from you is really what keeps me going and keeps my love for blogging alive. Without all of you I wouldn’t be doing this. It means so much to me when you appreciate my work or leave me sweet messages or even just like my posts. I always say this, but because it is true, I have the best readers/friends here on my blog. I don’t think I can thank you loves enough for just sticking it out with me and still being there even after I haven’t been providing what you loves deserve.
I can’t promise that I will be posting regularly from now on because I do have to finish the things around my new home but know that I haven’t forgotten you loves and that I am trying my hardest to get back into the swing of things and soon you’ll see the old Cesca is gonna be back better than ever. I do have a lot in store for all of you. I have so many ideas and so much planned but I will have to take it easy. I’m going to Belgium again soon and I was wondering if you’d like to see Bob again? If you do just let me know. Maybe I’ll make him take the lead for my trip to Brussels.
Anyhoo. Thank you for taking the time to read my explanation and what’s been going on. I know I don’t really do this a lot, just because I feel I’m more of a beauty, travel and style blogger but I will update you guys when I have to. But know that even if I don’t publish a lot of personal stuff you can message me and we can get personal. I love talking to you guys and sending messages back and forth. It really is what makes my blogging experience special; getting to know all of you.
As always, If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to send me a message or leave it on the comment section bellow. Beauty Book: By Terry Haul - Review & Swatches
Today I’m going to share with you this By Terry Haul. I’m super thankful to my aunt who is enabling my obsession with makeup for gifting these products to me! I guess I should call this and Anti-Haul because I didn’t buy them myself, what do you think? Anyway, I won’t make this intro long so let’s get started!
Let’s start with an overview about the brand and the creator. By Terry was created by Terry de Gunzburg, a very well known makeup artist and the woman behind the iconic YSL Touche Eclat Concealer, she began her journey with makeup one summer right after dropping out of med school to pursue architecture. She took a summer makeup course with Maria & Rosy Carita, popular makeup artists during the 1970’s, and Maria noticed her work in one class - perfect lips, perfect complction, perfect eyebrows - by chance she needed another makeup artist for a Vougue shoot the next day. Maria told terry to do what she did in class and it will be great. That’s exactly what she did and that was the start of it all. After years of freelancing and being a makeup artist, Terry became the International Makeup Designer for Yves Saint Laurent and later on the International director of Creation and Marketing. She stayed in YSL for 15 years until 2000 she decided to dedicate herself into creating her own brand called By Terry. If you want to read more about the life of Terry de Gunzburg here is an amazing article about her by style.com, click this. The brand itself is a high-end one. Because of the luxurious feel of the products expect to be paying a lot more than your usual drugstore makeup. But believe me, IT IS SO WORTH IT!
On to the products I aquired…
F A C E P R O D U C T S :
Cover Expert Foundation in #8 Intense Beige
Claims of the Product - Perfecting Fluid Foundation, Ultra-Correcting Coverage, Flawless Velvet Radiance, I.M.C.® Technology (see full description of the product from the site here.)
I’ve worn this foundation 3 days straight now. I’ve worked, went out, the weather was hot then cold then rainy, basically I’ve tested this to the brim and I must say, at the end of each day my skin still looked flawless and I didn’t even use a setting spray at all. It is phenomenal! Totally worth the price (although I didn’t pay for it, if i did it still would be worth it) Foundation is a must have in your makeup! A flawless skin is the best look! (more on makeup must have on my next post!) And if you deicide to invest in a foundation don’t waste your money on anything else just get this one! It’s long lasting, creamy matte finish but still gives a glow & easy to blend. It does have fragrance to it but I don’t mind it. Honestly it smells lovely! I would totally recommend this! By far the best foundation I have tried so far!
Touche Veloutée Conceler in #2 Cream
Claims of the Product -Highlighting Concealer Brush, With Skin-Perfecting Phyto-Ingredients, Anti-Blemish – Anti-Fatigue, Ultra-Smoothing Full Coverage (see full description of the product from the site here.)
Again I’ve tested this product as much as the foundation and I had very high hopes for this product since Terry is the creator of the iconic Touche Eclat from YSL, I figured this would be the same, but it honestly blew my mind this is fantastic! It exceeded my expectations, truly. It’s full coverage and brightening. I use this both as concealer and highlighting and it does wonders. Again, worth the money and worth the investment. I don’t even want to use my other concealers anymore because this is amazing!
Here are photos of the results the foundation and concealer gave me…
As you can see on the complete coverage photo, I applied 2 coats of foundation, concealed my dark circles and highlighted on the usual places, the coverage really is amazing. The best part of the foundation is if you just want a light coverage for the day it’s possible. So it’s perfect for summer or any other season of the year. Easy to build and it does not look cakey at all.
Moving on to the Eye Products…
E Y E P R O D U C T S :
Crayon Khol Terrybly in #1 Black Print
Claims of the Product: Precise & Intense Definition, Extra-Staying, Comfort Waterproof Formula (see full description of the product from the site here.)
This eyeliner is so rich, creamy and very easy to work with. With one light swipe, the colour is jet black. You have time to work with it, meaning smudge it out, before it actually sets, which is a good thing. A khol pencil is meant to be easy to smudge for that smokey look. It’s perfect for the waterline and tight lining your upper lash line because it’s so creamy that it won’t tug on it to much.
Aqua Print Eyeshadow in #3 Peach Tornado
Claims of the Product: Aqua-Stain Eyeshadow, Anti-Free Radical Colour and Treatment (see full description of the product from the site here.)
It’s very creamy and easy to work with. Simply draw this all over your lid and it’s a really nice base or you can use it alone. I think this colour is absolutely perfect for summer!
Here are some swatches of the 2 products…
I used the aqua print eyeshadow as a base for my look and used the crayon kohl as my eyeliner, smudged it out to create a smokey look. I really liked using these products it was so easy and made my makeup application really fast.
Here’s the finished look so you can see for yourself how it all applied on…
Over all you really get your money’s worth on these products. They are very luxurious. Most of their products also have a lot of benefits for your skin, mostly anti-aging, which is a good thing because it’s never too early to start taking care of your skin. The best solution is a good preparation! I highly suggest investing in a good foundation and concealer and if you’re going to might as well pay a little bit extra and get from By Terry. It is expensive but it’s only a little bit more expensive than other high-end makeup so why not just put in a bit more and get the best?
So thats pretty much it. I hope you guys enjoyed this review. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to send me a message or leave it on the comment section bellow. I answer all the time! Don’t forget to follow me on twitter @cescamandigma and on instagram @cescamandigma it would truly mean a lot to me! All of the love and support is very much appreciated! Until next time!
Beauty Book: 3 Steps to the Perfect Brow
Today I’m going to share with you how I do my eyebrows. The lovely sheiscrazyesha gave me the idea to do this post so I must give her credit. They eyebrows are the most important feature to work on when doing your makeup. It basically frames the entire face and makes a HUGE difference when done correctly! I will be sharing my tips and tricks as to how I shape my own eyebrows and I hope you find this helpful!
My eyebrows are in no way, shape or form perfect mainly because it’s really hard to shape my inexistent eyebrows but it’s okay. I like how they look. Remember, this is all about preference, so let’s get started!
W H A T T O U S E :
Personally I like to use the good old eyebrow pencil and brow gel. I just find it to be easier to use and if you’re a beginner, I suggest to start out with this too. There are however a lot of other options out there in forms of powder, gel, even liquid tattoo, so just find the product that works for you and if you follow my tips and tricks you’ll still come out with the same results.
T O P T I P S :
1. GROOM GROOM GROOM!
It is very important to groom your eyebrows. It makes it a lot easier to fill them in while doing your makeup! Also, no one wants brows that are all over the place. If you’re not used to doing your own brows by all means get a professional to do them and from there you can continue maintaining them yourself. However, if you don’t want to spend money on a professional you can always just pluck/shave the excess hairs and just clean up the brow, follow the natural shape and no need to shape them.
2. YOUR BROWS ARE SISTERS NOT TWINS!
Your brows will never look exactly the same no matter how hard you try. You can make them look identical but never exactly a like. So accept that and move on!
3. NEVER USE BLACK!
For shading, you never use black! Even if your hair is black use a dark brown to fill in your brows for a more natural look. A black pencil will just make you look cray cray cray!
4. PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!
I’ve been filling in my brows for so long now but it’s only recently that I’ve actually perfected my own method and what works for me. So if you don’t get them right the first few tries, it’s okay! Try and try again!
H O W I D O M Y B R O W S :
1. Start off by outlining the brow. Grab a pencil and follow my ABC chart as to how the points should align. I like to start from the bottom creating a line from the inner corner to the lower arch and creating that tail. Then I outline the top portion and just connecting it to the tail.
2. Fill in the shape you created. Make sure to use a lighter hand when filling in the inner portion because you don’t want that part to be too dark. However, use a heavier hand when filling in the middle all the way to the tail because that’s where you want the most depth. So it’s supposed to have a gradient effect.
3. Apply some brow gel to set the brows. You can use a clear mascara or a tinted brow gel. I use a tinted brow gel because my hair colour doesn’t match my eyebrows.
And that’s pretty much it loves! Very simple! It just takes practice I promise. You’ll eventually get the hang of it. Also, make sure to do it the way you like it. Again, this is all about preference, so shape your brows the way that suites your face. Just because the girl next to you has thick eyebrows doesn’t mean you should have thick eyebrows too.
I hope you guys enjoyed this tutorial. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to send me a message or leave it on the comment section bellow. I answer all the time! Beauty Book: Simple Warm Smokey Eye Makeup Tutorial
I have had a lot of requests and questions about this makeup whenever I post photos of it on my social media accounts, so today I’ve decided to share with you how I create this look. I promise this is very simple! Just a lot of blending required! So let’s get started!
Products I used to achieve this look:
1. Maybelline Color Tatto in Metallic Pomegranate
2. Lorac Pro Palette (Colours: Taupe, Sable, Espresso, Black, Garnet & Cream)
3. Lorac Unzipped Palette (Colour: Unbridled)
4. Maybelline Master Duo Liquid Eyeliner in Black
5.Maybelline Big Eyes Mascara; Waterproof
**For beginners I have a post about an eye guide check it out here**
Warning: The colour illustrated bellow is a bit off. In person, it’s more of a warm deep red than it is brown. Sorry for that. Just refer to the title photo and the last photo for the true colour.
Steps to achieve this look:
1. Apply a colour a few shades darker than your skin tone as a transition colour in windshield wiper motions in the crease until the upper crease. I used Taupe from the Lorac Pro Palette.
2. Pat the Maybelline Color Tattoo in Pomegranate all over the lid but just until the crease and not going passed it.
3. Apply tape on the sides of your eyes to allow a clean crisp look while applying your shadows. Pat a warm red shade all over the lid where you applied the cream shadow to set it.
4. Blend a dark brown shade and black into the crease in windshield wiper motions to create depth in the eyes. I used Espresso & Black from the Lorac Pro Palette. Its best to apply a little at a time because its easier to keep adding colour that to take off a bit. If things get crazy you can always go back with that transition shade and blend things out more.
5. Highlight just the centre of the lid with a copper shimmer shade. I used Garnet from the Lorac Pro Palette.
6. Highlight your brow bone with any mat shade that is a shade lighter than your skin tone. I used cream from the Lorac Pro Palette. Then draw a wing liner with your liquid eyeliner while you still have the tape. The tape will make the liner application much much easier. Once it dries you can take off the tape.
(this is the time to apply your foundation and concealer)
7. Apply a black eyeliner on your upper and lower lash line. Then smudge the brown and warm red shade on the bottom lash line for more drama. Curl you lashes and apply 2 coats of mascara to complete the look.
Products I used for the rest of my face:
1. L’Oreal Nude Magique in Warm Ivory
2. MAC Pro Longwear Concealer in NC20 & NW15
3. Maybelline Fit Me Stick Foundation in Moka for Contouring
4. MAC Mineralized Skin Finish Natural in Light Plus
5. Blush in ELF Contouring Blush and Bronzer
6. Nars Laguna Bronzer for setting the contour
7. MAC Pure Zen Lipstick for a nude lip
8. Chanel Lipgloss in Seashell
And here’s the final look…
That’s pretty much it loves! Told you it would be simple! Remember, you don’t have to use the exact same products/brands as I did. You can use anything similar that you have in your collection which is why i tried to describe the colours I used to give you an alternative.
I hope you guys enjoyed this makeup tutorial and feel free to give me suggestions on what you’d like to see next! Don’t forget to follow me on twitter @cescamandigma and on instagram @cescamandigma it would truly mean a lot to me! All of the love and support is very much appreciated! Until next time!
